May 1
Fifteen players from Whyalla played a Port Lincoln team, with the following results – Port Lincoln named first – Dan Townsend lost to Chad McLean 5/4, Ben Abley and Andrew Edkins drew their match, Norm Marks defeated Brett Boswell 2/1, Brett Davies d S Darby 2/1, Adam Davies d A Lynch 1 up, Jamie Puddy lost to Tyson Dodd 3/1, Scott Lombe d Wesley McLean 6/5. Mike Freeman d Richard Coyne 5/4, Adam Sullivan was 1 up over John Horner, Haydn Myers d Darren Veart 8/6, Huey Rosalia d Anthony Manfield 4/3, Ash Durdin d Nick Darby 7/5, Jake Norris d J Mark 3/2, Trent Bradford d Danie Jacobs 8/7, Andrew Fraser won 1 up from Terry Costello and Matt Parker ost to Steven Main 2 down.
The final result from the sixteen match was a resounding 12 wins and adraw by the local team, but based on last year’s competition, Whyalla definitely has the edge in the rematch on their home ground on 18th June.
April 30
Saturday’s Men’s competition was a Stroke event, covering the second qualifying round for the Fulwood Cup and the Monthly Medal. There were 19 visitors, mainly from Whyalla for the inter-club pennants the next day, and also from Headland, Yea, Coffin Bay and Mandurah Clubs. Lincoln Meat Services and Bakers Delight sponsored the day.
The Monthly Medals were actually held a week earlier, and won by Ben Abley in A Grade with a two under par 70, Corey Stephens in B Grade with 82 and Colin Clark won C Grade with 86.
The Fulwood Cup qualifying rounds have been completed and the following players will compete in handicap match play – Ben Abley vs Mike Freeman, Dan Brown vis Peter Kenny, Corey Stephens vs Jason Verhees and Luke Gardner will play James Blewit.
In the day’s Men’s handicap divisions, 88 hit off, with Ben Sellen winning A Grade with 68 nett from Dan Brown 70, Luke Gardner won B Grade with 68 from Peter Kenny 72 and visitor Jeff Tiller won C Grade with 72 on a countback from James Fuss.
Rundowns went to visitor Wesley McLean and James Blewit on 71 and a host of players on 72 – Ryan Cottrell, Mike Freeman, Jason Verhees, Ben Abley and Norm Marks.
Fourteen women played a Stableford competition, won by Cindy Carr with 36 points from Maxine Garnaut 35.
NTP Winners were George Mayhew, visitors Anthony Manfield, Chad McLean and Andrew Edkins, Scott Lombe and Mike Freeman.
Par-three birdies were achieved by Mike Freeman, Ben Abley, Norm Marks (twice), Dyman Bell, visitor Jason Markadonatos, Scott Lombe Cindy Carr and Dan Townsend.
April 28
An Invitational Day on Thursday fielded 21 women, but with no visitors.
Diana Laube won the day with 38 Stableford points from Rhondda Mayfield, Carolyn Cocks and Jinny Hussey all on 36 and Deb Sykes on 35.
NTP Winners were Cynthia Thompson, and Helen George (twice).
April 27
Wednesday’s Men’s Competition had a smaller field of 55, with daily sponsors being Port Lincoln Meats.
Adam Sullivan won A Grade with 38 Stableford points from Warren Rosman 37. The score of the day came in B Grade, with Brenton George on 41 winning from Robert Proude 39, and Ian Sellen won C Grade with 35 from Maurie Barry 34.
Rundowns went to Cliff Taylor 39, Graeme Tiller 38, Dan Townsend and Ryan Cottrell on 37 and Robert Fox on 32.
NTP Winners were Cliff Taylor, Dan Townsend, Tony Dragun, Ben Abley, Kane Williams and Peter Leahy, while Dan Townsend, Josh Hausler and Brenton George all had par-three birdies.
April 25
25 players also hit off at noon on Anzac Day, with Brenton George winning with 39 Stableford points from Annette Schaefer on 37. Rundowns went to Adam Sullivan and Tony Dragun, both on 36 points.
April 24
Sunday saw 26 players hit off in the Mixed Stableford competition. The winner was Broden Dennis with 41 points from Mike Freeman on 37. Rundowns went to Paul Oldacre 37 and Cindy Carr on 36.
