April 17
21 golfers teed off for Sunday’s Mixed Stableford competition. There were two visitors, from Echunga and Coffin Bay Golf Clubs.
The winner was Mike Freeman with 38 points from Codey Marchesi on 36, with rundowns going to James Fuss and visitor James Whisson, both on 34 points.
April 18
A Stableford event was held on Easter Monday, with a good field of 34 players, including a visitor from Coffin Bay.
The winner was Haydn Myers with 40 points, on a countback from Cynthia Thompson. Further good scores in the rundowns were Jack Shanley 39 and Norm Marks and Joshua Humphries, both on 36.
April 20
Wednesday’s Men’s Competition was sponsored by Boston Bay Wines and there was a field of 64, including a visitor from Grange GC.
Captain Chris Brooks won A Grade with a score of 39 Stableford points, from Haydn Myers on 36.
36 points was also the B Grade scoring target, with Boris Kovacic silently sneaking in with that score and counting out Brenton George. Pat Kildea was the C Grade winner also with 36 from Peter Watherston on 34.
Rundowns went to Mick Hegarty, Chas Chambers and Trent Bradford on 36, Wayne Smith and Bill Healy – returning after injury – with 35 and David Bellchambers finished the field with 32 points.
NTP Winners were Ashley Durdin (twive), Peter Kenny, Haydon Myers, Darryl Scharfe and Kris Bunder, with par-three birdies scored by Trent Bradford, Boris Kovacic and George Mayhew.
April 21
A good field of 22 women played a Stableford event on Thursday, sponsored by Ace Cricket and Eyre Travel.
The day was won by Carolyn Cocks with 38 points, from Michelle Smith with 38. More good scores prevailed in the rundowns, with Jo Higgins on 37 and Diana Laube and Adie Fraser on 36 points.4
NTP winners were Michelle Smith, Gail Watherston and Heather Darley.
April 23
Saturday was a busy day, with over 100 players competing, including six visitors from Berri, Yea, Coffin Bay and Hamilton Club in Queensland. The day was sponsored by Lincoln Meat Services. Today was the first qualifying round for the Fulwood Cup, played under handicap match play comditions.
From 84 men competing, the big guns were out. A Grade winner was Adam Sullivan with 67 nett on a countback from Ben Abley, who shot two under par from his three handicap. Corey Stephens won B Grade with 65 from Dave Batterbury 69 and Colin Clark took out C Grade with 67, well adhead of runner-up Wayne Smith on 73.
Rundowns went to Jason Verhees, Dylan Vonderwall and Daniel Brown on 70, and Mitchell Roberts, Tom Dawson, James Blewit and Dylan Bell on 71, from his scratch handicap.
17 women competed, with Val Sharrad winning with 37 Stableford points from Deb Sykes and Sue Cotton, both on 35.
Dan Townsend eagled the par five 5th hole and NTP winners were Norm Marks (twice), Rob Humphries, Dylan Bell, Dan Townsend and Tyson Athhur.
Par three birdies were plentiful, coming from Ben Abley, Dylan Bell, Norm Marks (twice), Trent Bradford, Peter Kenny, Tyson Arthur, Mike Freeman (twice), Warrren Rosman, Rob Humphries, Trevor Durdin and Tony Dragun.
Coming Events
A busy week lies ahead for the Club. This coming Saturday is the second qualifying round for the Fulwood Cup and also the Men’s Monthly Medal Day.
Visitors from Whyalla Club will play Pennants at Port Lincoln on Sunday and the Greenside Bistro will be open on Saturday night – book early to avoid disappointment.
