Sunday October 24

Ten players ventured to Whyalla for a return Pennants match, where the local team was successful in winning seven matches against Port Lincoln two, with one match drawn. The home ground advantage, which was used to advantage by both Clubs, saw the overall two round competition awarded to Whyalla, 11 matches to nine.

Closer to home, the Sunday Stableford event was won by Ashley Durdin with 39 Stableford points from Cindy Carr on 38. Rundowns went to Jack Shanley 36 and Daniel Brown 35; there were 21 players.

Tuesday October 26

A good field of 23 golfers tackled the 10-hole Tuesday Twilight event, with Mick Hegarty winning with 22 points, from Cynthia Thompson and Tom Hurley, both on twenty points.

Wednesday October 27

Men played their mid-week competition, with 63 entries.

The A Grade winner was Mick Hegarty with 38 Stableford points, on a countback from Huey Rosalia. Darryl Scharfe won B Grade with 41 from Aidan Sheehy on 39 and “Boston” Bill Ford had the score of the day to win C Grade with 43 points from Boris “The Phantom” Kovacic unlucky to lose with 41.

Rundowns went to Leon Newman and Ben Jaensch with 39, Grant Bamber and David Fitzgerald with 38 and Josh Hausler with 37.

NTP winners were Greg Cotton, Greg Barry, Leon Newman, Adam Sullivan, Ben Jaensch and Dan Townsend, and eleven par-three birdies were claimed by Josh Hausler, Taylor Ford, Ben Abley, Dan Townsend, Jake Murray, Adam Hage, Haydn Myers, Rick Kolega, Robert Proude, Chris Cottrell and Leon Newman.

Thursday October 28

Thunder, lightning and rain were the only sounds on the golf course for the day, apart from the regular women players texting early to cancel and arrange morning coffee meetings.

Friday October 29

The Friday Night Ambrose Teams event has now reached new levels, with over 70 players and 19 Teams. You can still join up, either as a team or an individual, at a cost of just $5. Many businesses are taking advantage of the end-of-working-week pause and playing the nine holes competition as a team and enjoying the bar and food facilities that follow.

This week’s play attracted a new record of 78 players, four more than last week.

Saturday October 30

The Monthly Medals were won by Dylan Bell, 74 off the stick on A Grade, Darryl Scharfe 84 in B Grade and Ben Jaensch 94 in C Grade. These players will be the ones to watch next week in the second and final round of the Club Championships.

A Stroke competition was played as the first round of the delayed Club Championships, with two visitors from Tea Tree Gully and Barmera Clubs.

85 Men hit off and the winners were Mike Freeman with nett 69 from Steve Thompson 72 in A Grade, Darryl Scharfe 71 from Tom Dawson 73 in B Grade and James Fuss 71 from Brian Smith 73 in C Grade.

Rundowns went to Jason Verhees and Dylan Bell 72, Andrew Fraser and Grant Woods 73, and Mark Cooper, Ben Kotz and Ben Jaensch 74.

From thirteen women players, Adie Fraser won with nett 36 from Lyn Hosking 34, on a countback from Val Sharrad.

NTP winners were Jason Verhees, Jamie Puddy, Taylor Ford, Clint Scharfe, Tate Secker, Simon Bell and visitor Doug Johns.

Birdies were collected by Doug Johns, Dylan Bell, Simon Bell, Jake Norris, Jamie Puddy, Greg Barry, Haydn Myers, Dan Townsend and Ben Abley.
