Port Lincoln Golf and Seafood Week has once again come and gone with the course looking immaculate and the players leaving everything they had on the fairway.
The Eyre Peninsula Open, proudly sponsored by Bendigo Bank, was competed on Saturday with over 100 golfers taking part.
Off the stick in the A Grade, Chad McLean took the honours, having travelled down from Whyalla to shoot an impressive 73 off the stick. Josh Hausler came runner up, three shots off the pace. The B Grade saw Warren Rosman on top of the leaderboard with a round of 80, two shots clear of Michael Edwards. Zephyr Thompson from Coffin Bay took out C Grade with a round of 89, Lindsay Gordon trailing him by two shots in second.
Nett results for the Saturday saw Nicholas Judd on top in A Grade with a score of 69, four shots clear of his nearest rival in Stuart Callary. The B Grade saw Trent Bradford on top with 73, besting Graeme Charlton on countback. A countback was also required to settle things in C Grade with Peter Leahy just besting Corey Stephens, a score of 74 shot between the two of them.
In the Women's Competition, Dione Heppel stood atop the A Grade mountain having shot a round of 89, one shot clear of Heather Darley. The B Grade also saw one shot make all the difference, Rhondda Mayfield shooting 101 and just surviving a scare from Tanya Thorson. Nett Results saw Kaye Jaensch clench A Grade with a score of 74, two shots clear of Cynthia Thompson. A countback was required to settle things in B Grade with both ladies having scored 75, Michelle Smith just edging past Annette Ballard.
Over the Thursday and Friday, golfers took part in the 36 hole championship, sponsored by Dean and Liz Weatherspoon, Sarin Group and Quinn Transport.
After two grueling days, Martin Hooper from Fox Hills stood atop A Grade having shot 151 over two days. Dylan Bell was his closest competitor, coming in with 153. B Grade had to be settled in a playoff with Brett Baker from Whyalla edging past Willian Walter from Echunga, both men having scored 173. Chad McKnight from Port Augusta found himself clinching C Grade with a score of 188, Bill Healey runner up a single shot away.
Nett scores saw Scott Lombe successful in A Grade with a score of 144, one shot ahead of James Blewitt. A single shot was all that separated B Grade as well, Tom Dawson having scored 146 just ahead of Brian Henson. Jackson Pruis was the winner in C Grade with a score of 146, five shots clear of his nearest competitor in Henry Morawiec.
In the Women's Competition, a playoff was required to settle things in A Grade with Dione Heppell from Murray Downs just putting her nose ahead of Catherine Haywood from The Vines, both women having shot 176. No playoff was required in B Grade, Libby Dolphin five shots clear with a score of 198. Deborah Sykes came in second.
Nett Results saw Helen George claim A Grade with 144 while Liz Weatherspoon took out B Grade, also with 144.
Wednesday saw a much more casual Stableford competition take place, proudly sponsored by Port Lincoln Hotel and Mojo's Takeaway.
Huey Rosalia took out A Grade with 37 points, one shot ahead of Chris Brooks. Darryl Scharfe was the winner of B Grade with 37 points, Graeme Dyke close behind with 36 points. A Countback was required to settle the difference in C Grade, Bill Healey just edging past Robert Fox with both men having shot 34 points.
The Women also took part in Stableford competition with Dione Heppell claiming victory with 33 points on a countback from Lyn Hosking in the A Grade. Michelle Smith claimed the score of the day in B Grade with 38 points, two shots clear from Christing Blacker from Coffin Bay.
Tuesday's competition was sponsored by Numerical Real Estate and Port Lincoln Hotel and saw the men take part in Stableford competition. Robert Proude took out A Grade with 36 points, one shot clear from Daniel Townsend. One shot was all that separated B Grade as well with Steven Forstner shooting 36 points, just edging past Nick Callary. Score of the day belonged to Jackson Pruis in the C Grade, having scored 38 points, a whole six shots clear from his nearest rival in Bill Healey.
The Women took part in Canadian Foursomes competition with the team of Cynthia Thompson and Jo Higgins taking out A Grade with a score of 73.5. Catherine Hayward and Roslyn Brunton came runner up with a score of 78.6. In the B Grade, Liz Weatherspoon and Michelle Smith came out on top with a score of 81.3, Maxine Garnaut and Jinny Hussey coming runner up with a score of 83.3.
