Whether it’s the change in season causing the difficulty to increase or the grass being that half a centimeter thicker due to seasonal rain, golfers are actively struggling to compete in the conditions laid out for them.
Saturday’s Stableford Competition, sponsored by Petstock, saw 70 men take to the course in challenging conditions. Phillip Remphrey top scored the day in A grade, shooting to handicap with 36 points. Simon Bell was close behind with 35 points. There was a one shot gap between the winner and runner up in B Grade, Graeme Charlton shooting 36 points and just edging out Cliff Taylor. C Grade had to be settled on a Countback, Haydon Manning just sneaking past Garry Downey with both men scoring 34 points.
In the ladies Saturday competition, 17 women took to the field. The result had to be settled by Countback with Cynthia Thompson just claiming victory over Libby Dolphin, both women scoring 35 points.
Thursday’s Stableford Competition, sponsored by Eyre Computing and Communications, saw Josie Bacchus claim top spot with 38 points. She was five shots clear of her nearest rival in Cynthia Thompson.
Wednesday’s Stableford Competition was also Sponsored by Eyre Computing and Communications and was played over three grades. In A Grade, two players had to be decided by countback, Clinton Scharfe just making his way past Michael Hegarty, both men scoring 37 points. B Grade saw Andy Smith score 37 points to be two shots clear of Juri Berzins. David Graetz took out C Grade with 37 points. 34 points was all David Reid could muster in second place.
