New Dam on the 3rd Hole

The exciting second stage of our storm water harvest scheme has begun with the construction of a 1.1 megalitre dam on the 3rd hole which will capture 4.5 megalitres of storm water per annum from Flinders Highway. This water will be pumped using solar power to our main storage dam on the 18th. This will further decrease our reliance on mains water saving the club around $15,000 per year in direct mains water costs (at today’s prices). This will bring the total alternative water that we collect from all projects to around 18 megalitres which replaces 72% of our historic mains water use. This equates to a $63,000 saving per annum in direct mains water costs. The money we have saved is funding a 10 year loan provided by the City of Port Lincoln which has paid for all of the infrastructure costs along with the new Rain Bird irrigation system and the Davey Pump station. This initiative is already translating to much improved turf quality particularly on our fairways and irrigation efficiency will free up course workers for course improvement works. Most importantly we are investing in the club’s water security and protecting ourselves against the rising cost of mains water.

The new dam has been funded by a combination of grant funds ($25,300 through the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing) and member investments (through our interest earning unsecured loan program). Thank you to our members that have been part of this program so far.
